XenDesktop 7 Delivery Controller Communication with XenServer

In a XenDesktop 7 with XenServer pooled environment, the Delivery Controllers communicate with XenServer via HTTP on port 80 or, if secure communication is configured, via HTTPS on port 443.

The Delivery Controllers send commands to XenServer on one of those two ports to power on Virtual Machines. If new connections cannot be made to VMs, chances are the Controllers are unable to communicate with XenServer.

Existing connections are not affected if the Controllers can't communicate with XenServer.

For more information on which ports Citrix technologies use, see the Citrix Knowledge Base document, Communication Ports used by Citrix Technologies.
