  1. Scenario: Application files are stored remotely for an application that resides on a XenApp Server and requires virtual memory optimization. What must the administrator do to configure the application for memory optimization?
    1. Applications with remote application files cannot benefit from virtual memory optimization
    2. In the 'Memory optimization user' area of configuration, supply a domain administrator username and password
    3. In the 'Memory optimization user' area of configuration, check 'Use local system account'
    4. Grant the Citrix Administrator account permissions to the remote server where the application files reside

Answer: b.

Explanation: When an application that requires virtual memory optimization has application files located on a remote server, the administrator must supply a domain administrator's username and password that has rights to the remote server in the 'Memory optimization user' area during configuration.

  1. Scenario: Two CPU-intensive applications are running on a single-CPU XenApp Server in the farm. Some users are running both applications in a session while a few users are running only one of the applications in a session. Several users running applications on that server start voicing their concerns about poor application performance. What can the administrator do to resolve the issue of poor application performance?
    1. Configure Preferential Load Balancing
    2. Configure ICA session limits in the server farm
    3. In the server properties, configure 'Fair sharing of CPU between sessions'
    4. Start the CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service on the server

Answer: c.

Explanation: To resolve poor application performance on a single-CPU XenApp Server which is hosting CPU-intensive applications, using the Access Management Console, configure 'Fair sharing of CPU between sessions' for a server in CPU Utilization Management. The CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service only starts on servers with multiple processors. ICA session limits would be configured to manage the number of ICA sessions allowed per user.

  1. What service is only available on servers with multiple processors?
    1. IMA Service
    2. Citrix CPU Utilization Management/User-Session Synchronization
    3. Citrix CPU Utilization Management/Resource Mgmt
    4. Citrix CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer

Answer: d.

Explanation: The Citrix CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service is only available on servers with multiple processors.

Source: CXA-300-1I Advanced Administration for Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008, Page 146

  1. The CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service should only be run when all CPU intensive applications:
    1. appear to be running on the same CPU
    2. appear to be running on multiple processors
    3. are running in one session
    4. are running in multiple sessions

Answer: a.

Explanation: The CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service is responsible for enhancing resource management on servers with multiple CPUs and should only be run when all CPU intensive applications appear to be running on the same CPU.

Source: CXA-300-1I Advanced Administration for Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008, Page 146

  1. Scenario: A new CPU-intensive application has been added to the XenApp Server farm. Soon after adding the new application, users start voicing their concern over long logon times. Which of the following should the administrator do to resolve the issue?
    1. Configure ICA session limits in the server farm
    2. In the farm properties, configure 'Fair sharing of CPU between sessions'
    3. Assign the Advanced Load Evaluator to the application
    4. Disable the CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service on the server

Answer: b.

Explanation: To resolve slow logon times when a CPU-intensive application is the cause, using the Access Management Console, configure 'Fair sharing of CPU between sessions' for the farm in CPU Utilization Management. The CPU Utilization Management/CPU Rebalancer Service is responsible for enhancing resource management on servers with multiple CPUs and should only be run when all CPU intensive applications appear to be running on the same CPU and disabling it would not solve anything. ICA session limits would be configured to manage the number of ICA sessions allowed per user. Load evaluators would be a factor if it was a load issue, but it's a CPU/application issue.

  1. Scenario: User A is running multiple CPU intensive applications on a XenApp Server. User B is running one CPU intensive application on the same server. User B is noticing application poor application performance while User A is not noticing any degradation in application performance. Which of the following should the administrator implement to solve this issue?
    1. Workspace Control
    2. Preferential Load Balancing
    3. CPU Utilization Management
    4. Keep Alive

Answer: c.

Explanation: When multiple sessions are running on a server, the performance of some sessions can be impacted when one or more sessions dominate the CPU time on the server. An administrator can configure CPU Utilization Management to monitor resources and normalize CPU peaks when the performance of the server farm becomes limited by CPU-intensive operations.

    1. Access Gateway
    2. File Type Associations
    3. Offline Access
    4. Alternate Profiles

Answer: d.

Explanation: For streamed applications only, use Alternate Profiles to allow one published application for users on either side of a WAN with file servers on their side. When you create an alternate profile, you create a duplicate of the primary profile that is located on a different file share, which is more accessible to the user device.

#Optimizing the Environment

  1. Which feature of XenApp allows a user to open an application on one workstation and, without closing the application, move to another workstation and connect to the application in the same session instead of opening a new session?
  1. Workspace Control
  2. Keep-Alive
  3. Session Reliability
  4. Auto Client Reconnect

Answer: a.

Explanation: Workspace Control allows users to connect to applications being delivered to the user on a different client device using the same session. Keep-Alive tracks the amount of time since the last time a server had contact with a plugin, sends a packet to the plugin and disconnects the session if the plugin doesn't respond within a certain time limit or number of tries. Session Reliability keeps the session displayed on the user's screen during connection interruption and displays a spinning hour glass until connectivity is resumed. Auto Client Reconnect detects a broken connection and attempts to reconnect the user to the disconnected session until there is a successful reconnection or the user cancels the reconnection attempts.
